    Thelma Jean (Koch) Sprenger passed away April 30 in Spokane at the age of 75. She was born May 23, 1936 in Ritzville. A private internment is schedule for immediate family on May 5 at 11 a.m. at the Ritzville City Cemetery. A celebration of her life is at the Zion Philadelphia United Church of Christ at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 5. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the H.E. Gritman Senior Center in Ritzville or Ritzville Pet Rescue, in lieu of flowers. Danekas Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. A...

    Jay V. Salkield died in Bellingham, Wash., on April 22 at the age of 97. He was born in Salt Lake, Utah on May 2, 1914 to Joseph and Luella Salkield. He was W7RWL to the ham radio world. He married Betty Singleton on September 12, l934, after he had graduated from Dietrich High School in Idaho. While working for the Union Pacific Railroad he learned Morse code and became a telegraph operator for the railroad during the second World War.     Gale T. Butler passed away April 18 at the age of 71, at the Kadlec Medical Center, in Richland, Wash. He had been struggling with COPD for the past three years and was recently diagnosed with intestinal cancer, which he could not overcome. He was born in Colfax, Wash., on August 8, 1940 and grew up on his parent’s farm in Valleyford, Wash. For his junior and senior high school years, he transferred to Lind, where he lived with his Aunt, Blanche Ellis, and cousins, Garry and Larry Ellis.     The Washtucna School District is offering a free screening clinic for children ages 0-5 years old on May 10 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at Washtucna School.     With three wins in the last four games of the regular season, the LRS Broncos finished 17-2 overall in regular season play and earned themselves the league championship.     The LRS tennis team sent a large group of athletes to the 67th annual Inland Empire Tournament in Spokane on April 27-28. The Broncos earned more wins in this tournament than any other LRS team previously had. The Inland Empire Tournament brings in athletes from all over the state of Washington and also some Oregon schools.     The Project 56 committee is sponsoring a golf tournament at the Ritzville Municipal Golf Course on Saturday, May 26, with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The tournament has been scheduled for Ritzville Alumni Weekend to encourage former classmates to enter and compete.     About two weeks ago, an Adams County Pet Rescue (ACPR) volunteer discovered two puppies abandoned and malnourished just outside of Othello. Both dogs had been scavenging for food and one puppy, named Patrol, appeared to have a major issue with one of his back legs.     The Ritzville Public Library is expanding their shelves and book selection because of the generosity of the Libri Foundation and the Ritzville Library Foundation. The Ritzville Public Library recently added 82 new books with a total retail value of $1,411.72 to the children’s and teen rooms. The Ritzville Library Foundation contributed $350, which the Libri Foundation matched on a two-to-one ratio.
