Ritzville Police Report

March 3, 10:04 a.m. — Police Chief David McCormick responded to a possible burglary in the 200 block of West Main Avenue at Hollie’s Headlines. The complainant found an open door when she arrived at work. The money was still in the cash register but other drawers had been opened and some papers shuffled but nothing was missing. It appeared someone reached through the mail slot and unlocked the door. The complainant stated they planned to change the deadbolt.

March 2, 2:04 p.m. — Chief David responded to Ritzville Grade School to investigate a suspicious 9-1-1 hang up call. It was determined that 14-year-old male student had placed the call. The school principal handled the discipline.

March 2, 7:29 a.m. — A complainant in the area of West First Avenue and Weber Avenue advised their son had located a subject believed to have stolen a laptop computer. Chief McCormick questioned a possible subject and was given an elaborate explanation about the turn of events. The man did not have a laptop in his possession and claimed it was in a motel room when he left the room. McCormick dropped the man off to catch a bus ride to Warden.

March 2, 9 p.m. — Officer Hunter Klewin responded to the 300 block of East Seventh Avenue for a welfare check on dogs that were housed in a garage.

March 2, 6:39 p.m. — Officer Tom Gracie responded to a report of juveniles running through people’s yards in the area of West Sixth Avenue and South Washington Street. He was unable to locate anyone.

March 2, 2:38 p.m. — Officer Gracie served civil papers in the 300 block of East First Avenue.

March 1, 2:08 p.m. — Officer Gracie responded to a suspicious 9-1-1 call in the 400 block of North Palouse Street. It was determined that there is no phone service at that residence.

March 1, 2:15 p.m. — While on patrol Officer Gracie observed an unsecured premises in the 400 block of East First Avenue at the former Meat Block. Dispatch contacted a responsible party who secured the premises.

Feb. 29, 3:36 p.m. — Animal Control officer Scott Carruth and Chief McCormick attempted to locate a dog that was running loose in the area of North Columbia Street and Fourth Avenue. The dog had displayed vicious tendencies toward a mailman.

Feb. 29, 4:19 p.m. — Chief McCormick responded to the 500 block of East First Avenue at the Cottage Motel. He was requested to stand by and keep the peace during an eviction. Prior to his arrival there was a verbal altercation and then one of the parties left.

McCormick made contact with the various people involved and some witnesses. He advised the evicted individual to stay away from the Cottage Motel.
