Fastpitch team directs focus to district playoffs

The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague softball team traveled to Davenport on April 28 to compete in a double header, returning with two losses.

Jenna Bennett pitched the first game against the Gorillas, giving up eight runs in the game. The Gorillas scored their eight runs late in the third.

The LRS team scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning and one run at the top of the sixth, but was unable to match the Gorilla’s early lead. LRS had six hits in the game and one error.

During the second game in mid-afternoon, the LRS girls started off on a scoring streak. Bennett started pitching for the Broncos but after giving up three runs in the second inning, Alicia Bolin pitched the remainder of the game.

The LRS girls scored two runs in the first, one in the second inning, two in the third and three runs in the fourth inning. The Broncos maintained the lead over the Gorillas until the fifth inning when they took an 11-8 lead.

The Broncos lost the second game against Davenport 8-13. Lexie Whitaker hit a double for the Broncos and Cathrine Hentges hit a triple and two singles. The Broncos had eight hits and two errors in the game.

The LRS softball team took on Liberty with the home field advantage on May 1. The Broncos again suffered to losses during the double header.

Bolin was the starting pitcher, switching with Bennett midway through the game. Bolin was attributed with the loss for the game, but Liberty remained consistent throughout, scoring two runs every inning.

The Broncos earned two runs in the first inning but remained scoreless the remainder of the game. Hentges hit the double that earned the Bronco points.

The LRS team finished the game with nine hits and one error, losing the game 2-12 to Liberty.

The second game against the Lancers resulted in a 4-6 loss for the Broncos. Bennett was the starting pitcher for the Broncos, switching with Bolin halfway through the game. Bennett was attributed with the loss.

LRS put the first runs on the board, with Brittany Ste. Marie and Bolin scoring doubles in the first and second inning.

Liberty scored two runs in the third, fourth and fifth inning. Both teams remained scoreless after the top of the fifth inning.

The LRS softball team qualified for the district playoffs and is playing in an away game on May 15, but it still has to be determined against who and where the game is played.
