Hoof Beat: Student News from Ritzville Grade School

There will be an Open House in Lind on May 17, at 6 p.m. for any student in grades 5-7 who will be attending Lind/Ritzville Middle School next year. The Open House will take place at the Lind High School, which will, starting next school year, be the Middle School.

Parents and students will start out in the cafeteria for a delicious spaghetti dinner. Students will receive school calendars, schedules, locker assignments, handbooks, and homeroom assignments. Students and parents will have the opportunity to go through student schedules (five-minute bells) so they can meet the Middle School staff and see where classrooms are.

The evening will close with a re-grouping in the cafeteria for more questions and answers. The Open House will end just after 7 p.m. {{more}]

On May 19, the annual Armed Forces Torchlight (Lilac) Parade will take place in Spokane. This parade is an annual parade in honor of our Armed Forces. The parade will start at dusk, and has many floats and bands. The Ritzville High and Junior High bands will be combined for the parade. The song the band will be playing is called “The Horse.” The band has been practicing the song and has it memorized. The song, according to band students, is “upbeat and fun!” The band is excited to perform the song and feel they will be very prepared to play it in the parade.

Mrs. York, the Ritzville Band director, said the float preview, which is accompanied by the band, will take place on May 17, downtown, at dusk. Students and their parents will have plenty of time to be up at the high school after the Open House in Lind. The band bus will leave from in front of the high school at 8:00 p.m.

What I Liked

By Wesley Hoisington, Student Correspondent

Instead of writing about what will happen, I want to write about what I enjoyed about this year. I enjoyed the Wax Museum. I think Mrs. Edgren and the sixth – eighth graders did a great job putting that together. The students learned about American icons such as the Wright Brothers, Coco Chanel, and many more. I hope I will be able to see the Lind/Ritzville Middle School students perform the Wax Museum in the near future!
