    The Ralston Grange is hosting its first meeting of the year at the home of Deloris Allert on Tuesday, Jan. 29, beginning at 7 p.m. All members and friends of the Grange are encouraged to attend, and activities and projects for the upcoming year will be discussed.   • Surf ‘n Turf fundraiser for firefighters

    The Sprague Volunteer Firefighters are hosting a Surf ‘n Turf fundraiser dinner on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 6-8 p.m. in the Sprague Community Hall. The $20 dinner includes a half of crab and an eight-ounce prime rib, potatoes, salads, bread, dessert and a beverage. Beer and wine are sold at an additional cost.   • Open house for mural follows potluck

    The H.E. Gritman Senior Center is hosting a potluck and open house on Friday, Jan. 25. The potluck begins at noon, and those attending are asked to bring utensils and a dish. During the potluck hour, the group will be conducting the annual meeting.     Local health administrators are encouraging area residents to stay healthy and receive influenza vaccinations, as the illness is becoming more widespread throughout the state and the nation.     The deadline for the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) Center for Quality Communities scholarship is March 15. Applications for the scholarship can be picked up at Ritzville City Hall during regular business hours. The AWC Center for Quality Communities scholarship awards six $1,000 scholarships for high school seniors who are actively involved in their community and want to pursue post-secondary education.     Caring Neighbors recently donated $1,500 to the Adams County Sheriff’s Department. The money will be used to purchase a Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) system.
