Whitmore finalist for coaching award

Greg Whitmore, alongside four other male coaches in the state, has been named as a finalist for the Inland Northwest Sportswriters and Broadcasters (SWAB) junior male coach of the year.

Every year, SWABs selects 10 junior athletes, and five each among male and female teams and coaching candidates.

The winners of the competition should be announced within the next two weeks.

Whitmore has been selected as a finalist as the junior male coach of the year for guiding the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague football team to a 12-0 season and winning the 2B title.

Alongside Whitmore, Matt Jorgersen of Deer Park, Jon Knight of Northwest Christian, Gabe Lawson of Post Falls and Kieran Mahoney have all been selected as finalists in the category.

Ritzville native, Brittney Kubik, is listed as a finalist for the junior female coach of the year for coaching Reardan to its third consecutive 2B state volleyball title.
