    Ritzville High School Alumni will gather for the 110th annual banquet and meeting this Saturday, May 23, at Gilson Gymnasium. Ticket sales for this year’s banquet have closed.     Geocaching returns to the Ritzville area this weekend with the Third Annual Ritzville Small Town Cache Cow Event. Hosted by the Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce, the event will feature a new activity and an awards dinner. Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices, such as SmartPhones, tablets and GPS units.   • Memorial Day services scheduled, volunteers needed to set up flags

    Memorial Day services have been planned at the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery and the Washtucna Pioneer Memorial Cemetery on Monday, May 25. Volunteers are needed on May 22 at 5:30 p.m. to assist the Ritzville VFW Post No. 11446 and American Legion Post No. 51 with setting flags up at the cemetery. The flags are taken down the evening of May 25 and volunteers are also needed to assist at the cemetery on Monday evening.   • “Click It or Ticket” campaign includes buckling up children

    This year’s annual statewide “Click It or Ticket” campaign will take place between May 18 and May 31. During these dates, motorists in Washington can expect to see extra seat belt patrols, which will include an emphasis on children who are not properly restrained. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of unintentional deaths among children in the United States.     The regularly scheduled Ritzville Museum Volunteer meeting held at Memories Diner on Tuesday, May 12, began with updates regarding the Dr. Frank R. Burroughs’ Home and Train Depot museums. Needed repairs to the Burroughs Home porch was made with the project totaling roughly $1,000. The museum volunteers had applied for a grant, which will reimburse the committee funds.     Bur buttercup, sometimes mistaken for puncturevine due to its spiny bur appearance, is an early spring annual growing 2–5 inches tall and often in a dense like mat.     Ritzville Police and Ritzville Fire Department responded to an explosion at the Sonnendorf Apartments just after 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 26. The call came into dispatch advising of an explosion occurring in Apartment 23 of the complex. The explosion blew out three windows in the second-floor apartment, leaving glass on the sidewalk below.
