Lady Broncos qualify for Regionals

The Lady Broncos traveled to Springdale Tuesday, May 12 to play against Reardan in the first, loser-out, round of district softball. The game, which ended with an 8-3 win over the Indians, advanced the Lady Broncos to a second, same-day, game against Springdale.

The first game started slow and stayed consistent into the top of the sixth inning with Reardan ahead 3-0.

The Lady Broncos played very tentative their first game, mentioned Head Coach Todd O’Brien. They began districts with no aggression at the plate.

Jana Mattox pitched very well, giving up only three hits for the game. Offensively, Mattox kicked into gear the last inning with a triple. Mattox followed the example set by Tessa O’Brien with a single and an introduction to aggressive offense in the later part of the game.

The Lady Broncos stepped up in the sixth inning, scoring four runs. They were able to hold Reardan to their three-run score before the Lady Broncos scored a final four runs in the seventh, taking the win and advancing to play Springdale.

Their excitement showed as the Lady Broncos took the lead over Springdale 4-0 with strong solid defense to hold them through the fourth inning.

Springdale, able to pick up on the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague pitching, came alive in the fifth inning with five runs, but still trailed by one.

O’Brien was very pleased with how the Lady Broncos played throughout the second game, which ended with a 10-6 loss to Springdale, but still advanced the team to districts in a loser-out game against Kettle Falls, Tuesday, May 19.

The Lady Broncos advanced to the Regional Tournament with a 15-3 win over Kettle Falls at Merkel Fields. They will play at Merkel Fields Saturday, May 23 at 11 a.m.
