Candidates file for elected positions countywide

Eighty-eight candidates have filed for election in the 2015 Primary Election. There are currently 77 offices filed for though a variety of county offices.

The offices span from the legislative district to town council positions to park and recreation commissioner positions.

The positions available include positions in Othello, Endicott, Lamont, Sprague, Warden and LaCrosse.

For Legislative District 9, the three candidates and their preferred party are, Mary Dye, Republican; Richard Lathim, Republican; and Kenneth E. Caylor, Democrat.

The City of Ritzville has five positions open for filing, including the position of mayor. Gary Cook is the sole candidate who has filed for election as the mayor of Ritzville, a position previously held by Linda Kadlec.

In the City of Ritzville Council positions, Dede Rawlings has filed for Council Ward 1; Corey Umland filed for Council Ward 2, Dennis Chamberlain filed for Council Ward 4, and Mark Weigand filed for a two-year Council at Large position. All of the Ritzville candidates are running unopposed.

In Lind, three candidates are vying for the Council Position 4, currently held by Paula Bell. Candidates filing for election are incumbent Bell, Richard Baldwin and John Claypool.

In the Council Position 5, the Town of Lind has two candidates filed for the position. The candidates are Nick Meyers and Craig Cooper.

Washtucna has two council positions open, as well as the office of mayor. The sole candidate for mayor of Washtucna is Brian Hille. Council Position 1 candidate is David Miller and Council Position 5 candidate is Jennifer Webb.

The Town of Hatton has two candidates vying for the mayoral position. Jim Winebarger and Daniel Fitts have both filed for election as mayor. Nichole Fitts filed for election in Council Position 1, Linda Pitts filed for Council Position 3, and Terry Quandt has filed for Council Position 5.

All town and city council positions are a nonpartisan office, four-year term.

For the Hospital District No. 2, Ross Heimbigner is seeking reelection in Commissioner Position 1, six-year short and full term. Eric Walker is also seeking reelection in Commissioner Position 4, a six-year term. Both commissioners are running unopposed.

The Washtucna, Ritzville, Lind and Benge school boards all have director positions open for election.

In Ritzville, Greg Galbreath is seeking reelection in Director District 4. Reid Phillips is running unopposed for Director District No. 2.

The Lind School Board has three candidates seeking reelection. In Director Position 1, Annie Trunkle Smart has filed, while Jani Melcher filed in Director Position 2 and Beverly Kulm in Director Position 4.

In Washtucna, Melinda Owens is filing for reelection in Director Position 1. The Director Position 3 is a contested race between Wayne Johnstone and Theresa St. Hilaire.

For the Benge School District No. 122, James Whitman has filed for election as Director Position 4.

All school board positions for these districts are for a four-year term.

The Fire District 1 Commissioner Position 1 is a contested race this year between Jacob Harder II and Matt Kubik. In Washtucna, the Fire District 7 Commissioner No. 2 position is also a contested race between Jason Snyder and Byron Allen. Both positions are for a six-year term.

Debra Sitton has filed for election in the Commissioner Position 3 in Fire District 7 for a four-year term.

Douglas Wahl has filed for Fire District 2 Commissioner 1 Position in Lind. The position is a six-year term.

For Fire District 6 in Benge, Jerry Whitman has filed for election in Commissioner Position 1 for a six-year term and Bruce Honn has filed for Commissioner Position 3 for a four-year term.

In Lind, Laurinda Ritz filed for Commissioner Position 2 and Breanne Williamson filed for the Commissioner Position 3 for the Park and Recreation 3 district. Also for the Park and Recreation 3, Samantha Crow has filed for Commissioner Position 4 and Kelsey Kramer filed for Commissioner Position 5.

For Park and Recreation 4 in Ritzville, Andrea Heider filed for election in Commissioner Position 1, Marie Borth filed for Commissioner Position 4 and Krista Krause filed for Commissioner Position 5.

In Washtucna Park and Recreation 2, Carol Thompson filed for Commissioner Position 1, Codi Titus for Commissioner Position 2, Elizabeth Sitton for Commissioner Position 3 and Theresa Hulett for Commissioner Position 5.

Michael Ebert has filed for election as Commissioner Position 2 for the Cemetery District 1 in Washtucna.

For the Cemetery District 3 in Lind, Jeffery Field filed for election as Commissioner Position 3.
