    The Ritzville City Post Office is participating in a nation wide event to do their part to stamp out hunger. On Saturday, May 14, residents are encouraged to leave a non-perishable food donation in a bag by their mailbox for their letter carrier to collect. This year will be the 24th annual National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive and last year they collected over 71 million pounds of food nationally, feeding an estimated 30 million people.   • Ralston Grange hosting musical program

    The Ralston Grange will be hosting dinner and a musical program at their hall in Ralston on Tuesday, May 17. Dinner, fixed by the men of the Grange, will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a musical program presented by Father Kenny, pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church since 2013.   • Senior Center hosting stroke prevention presentation

    On May 19 the H.E. Gritman Senior Center will host Nurse Janet Monroe at 12:20 p.m. who will discuss stroke prevention.   • Wheatland Jackpot Show returns to Ritzville May 21

    The Fourth Annual Wheatland Jackpot Show will be held Saturday, May 21, in Ritzville. The show is open to prospect steers and cash awards will be paid to at least the top three entries. A showmanship contest is also included in the schedule. The show will again be held in conjunction with the Washington Junior Angus Field Day.   • Lee Road closed for two weeks for clean up

    On April 22 a large tanker containing gasoline and diesel fuel overturned on West Lee Road west of Highway 17. The tanker leaked approximately 3,800 gallons of gas and fuel. The Department of Ecology responded to test the soil in this area of the road. They have determined there is clean up needed on the North side of Lee Road and they will be closing the road on May 13 until approximately May 27.     After the sudden loss of three local businesses on April 29, Skin Deep Aesthetics’ owner Ruthie Panter supplied a copy of the air quality report, dealing with the building located at 202 West Main Avenue, to The Journal.     In November the Ritzville Public Library started a new program aimed at adults, Creative Corner. This is normally held on the third Saturday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and features a different craft for adults to make and take home.     The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus Tigercats had a strong performance at the1B/2B District 9 Meet at College Place on May 3. The LWK girls’ team placed sixth at the meet with 50 points.     The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague track and field team traveled to Mt. Spokane High School to compete in the NE 2B/District 7 Team Championship on May 5. This served as the final meet prior to the District track meet held in Ritzville on May 10.
