    The Lind Town Council met on May 24 with the discussion focused on the Animal Ordinance for the town and whether it will include chickens. The meeting began with the approval of the claims. Councilperson Kathy White asked why procedure has included the Clerk/Treasurer for the town using her personal bank accounts to purchase items and then be reimbursed by the town.   • Ritzville City Council works towards grant completion

    The May 17 meeting of the Ritzville City Council began with two requests from residents in attendance. The first request came from Amy Galbreath who requested the council’s approval to set up a firework stand near the Conoco Station. She will open at noon on June 28 and close in the evening of July 4 or whenever the stand is sold out. The council approved this unanimously.   • Lady Broncos close out their season in Regional Tournament

    The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague fastpitch softball team’s post-season ended on Tuesday, May 24, in the Regional Tournament. The placing for the Regional Tournament took place on May 17 in Spokane at the Merkel Fields. The Lady Broncos took on Northwest Christian for their first match up of the day. Northwest Christian, the number one team, beat the Lady Broncos 20-0. LRS had no runs, two hits and four errors.   • Lind signs contract with Ecology

    The Lind Town Council met on May 10 with a large group of citizens in attendance. Alan Gay from Stantec began the meeting by advising the council he had the contract for the Stormwater project in hand from the Department of Ecology (Ecology) and it was ready to be signed by the Mayor pending council approval. By signing the contract the Town can begin to incur costs to be covered by the grant and loan monies.     Preliminary recommendations for trail management of the current John Wayne Pioneer Trail from the Columbia River east to Malden have been drafted by the Washington State Parks. The Legislatures and public have presented an increased interest in the future of the trail the State Parks developed an Advisory Committee comprised of numerous special interest groups and are holding public forums for outside perspectives and suggestions.     The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos will be moving on to the Regional Tournament in Spokane on May 21 after winning two loser out games on May 10. After entering the District Tournament at number five the Lady Broncos were matched up against Tekoa-Rosalia. This game took place at Mary Walker High School and was the first of their two contests for the day. The first order of business was the swearing in of Michelle Plumb as Council Member five at large to replace Ben Cross, who recently resigned his post.   • Creative Corner held at Ritzville Library

    In November the Ritzville Public Library started a new program aimed at adults, Creative Corner. This is normally held on the third Saturday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and features a different craft for adults to make and take home. Library Director Kylie Fullmer began receiving inquiries from library patrons about how to make the decorations located at the library.     The regular meeting of the Lind Town Council took place on April 26 beginning with a report from Town Engineer Alan Gay who is contracted through Stantec in regards to the ongoing Stormwater Project. Gay began by discussing uses for monies left on grants the town has received. The first grant was received from the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDARD) to be used for improvements on water systems.     The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague fastpitch softball team finished their regular season 9-9 and in fifth place. They will be playing in the first round of the District Tournament on May 10 in Springdale. The team will face either Tekoa-Rosalia or Wilbur in a loser out contest.     The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague baseball team finished their season last week with two final doubleheaders on April 26 and April 30. Head Coach Jason Aldrich and Assistant Coach Jason Hilzer were both very impressed with the team’s progress over the course of the season.     The Ritzville City Council met on Tuesday, April 19, with new technological improvements made to improve future meetings. Two televisions are mounted to the wall so when presentations are used one will face the audience and the other faces the council members.     The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos golf team participated in four matches within the last three weeks. The first took place at the Ritzville Municipal Golf Course on March 29 at 2 p.m. Results from this match are currently unavailable. The golfers then had a week with no matches due to Spring Break.     On April 12 the Lind Town Council met at their regular time for the first meeting of the month. The meeting began with the approval of the check warrants. Because of the glitch in the Bias Software used there were three additional checks from previous weeks to be approved.     The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos were given a bye during last week and only played one doubleheader against the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves on April 16. The game began slowly with the score tied 1-1 heading into the top of the fifth inning. Easton Nelson was on the mound for the entire game and threw 94 pitches. Nelson struck out eight batters, walked two, gave up just five hits and only allowed one earned run.     The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos played three doubleheaders last week and currently have a 6-6 record. They are currently ranked sixth in the Northeast 2B League.     The Ritzville City Council meeting took place on April 5 and began with an hour-long executive session with Attorney Milt Rowland in regards to the Well 9 project.
