Lee Road closed for two weeks for clean up

On April 22 a large tanker containing gasoline and diesel fuel overturned on West Lee Road west of Highway 17. The tanker leaked approximately 3,800 gallons of gas and fuel.

The Department of Ecology responded to test the soil in this area of the road.

They have determined there is clean up needed on the North side of Lee Road and they will be closing the road on May 13 until approximately May 27.

They will need to remove soil in a 17-foot deep and 500-foot length region, as of now they are unsure as to the width needing to be removed.

Clean Harbor will be doing the necessary clean up and will haul the contaminated dirt away and replace the road.

A detour will be in place with signage along Highway 17 indicating the closure.

The detour will advise drivers to go from Foley Road to Reynolds Road.
