In November the Ritzville Public Library started a new program aimed at adults, Creative Corner. This is normally held on the third Saturday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and features a different craft for adults to make and take home.

Library Director Kylie Fullmer began receiving inquiries from library patrons about how to make the decorations located at the library.

Fullmer saw an interest from the community and created the Creative Corner classes for adults to learn crafts and new art forms from skilled artists in the area.

The classes are introductory so beginners can see if it is something they are interested in before investing too much money in the supplies.

In a recent survey the Library conducted they discovered a 45 percent response rate of individuals who were interested in craft classes.

Each month has featured not only a different craft but also a creative, experienced crafter to lead the group.

In November, the crafters made gift tags, December they made bath and beauty goods, in January a crocheting for beginners class was held, in February there was a glass etching class and in March Easter Eggs were decorated with the Eggbot robot loaned by the State Library.

On April 30 the monthly Creative Corner was held and featured a basic watercolor class taught by Ritzville resident Pat Tremaine.

Tremaine self-taught herself using online videos and books to watercolor. She shared a particular technique with the class using sponges to create landscapes and trees.

These classes come at a cost of $5 and these funds are used to purchase the supplies for the day. The time of the teacher is generously donated.

The classes have become so popular the library has to limit the number of attendees. Because of this pre-registration for the classes is required, which can be done at the Ritzville Public Library front desk or via phone call to 659-1222.

Summer Wreaths will be the craft for May and the class will be held May 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and will be taught by none other than Fullmer.

Any residents with a craft they would like to see a class on or who would like to share their creativity with the community is encouraged to call the library at 659-1222.
