    The Ritzville Art Gallery is hosting an open house this Friday, Dec. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. where anyone is invited to peruse the fine art by regional artists, as well as an assortment of ornaments that serve as fundraisers for Adams County Pet Rescue. The gallery is selling bird ornaments made by Terri Cody for $15, a broad selection of ornaments for $3 and visitors can paint their own clay ornaments for $5.   • Pancakes on the menu for Friday

    The H.E. Gritman Senior Center will host the monthly pancake breakfast on Friday, Dec. 14, from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Pancakes, a choice of ham or sausage and coffee, are on the menu with a suggested donation of $5 per person. The breakfast serves as a fundraiser for the senior center and is held the second Friday of every month, except during the summer. The H.E.   • Second round of Turkey Bingo in Washtucna

    Residents have a second opportunity to win a turkey or cash prizes during the second Turkey Bingo event in Washtucna on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Lions Den on Main Street. Turkey Bingo is hosted by the Washtucna-Benge Lions Club and begins at 7 p.m. The tradition of free, endless popcorn continues, and hotdogs, chilidogs, soda pop and candy are available to purchase from the kitchen.     Kahlotus DECA students, in collaboration with the FFA, organized and held the Second Annual Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 21, from 6-8 p.m. More than 100 attendees showed up to eat a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings.     The Adams County Commissioners unanimously approved the 2013-2018 Six Year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) during the morning session on Monday, Dec. 3. Adams County Engineer Scott Yaeger presented the TIP plan explaining the specific differences and changes from the previous years.     The Washtucna Birds of Play 4-H Club had a GPS meeting on Sat, Nov. 3. We went geocaching after we reviewed how to program the handheld GPS’s. We found the “When it Rains it Pours” geo-cache in Washtucna.     Trotters of all ages came out Thanksgiving morning for the 25th anniversary run of the Turkey Trot. Mike and Harriet Lynch awarded prizes before starting off in front of the New Ritz Theatre.     The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus Tigercats went on the road Friday evening to battle Tekoa-Oakesdale, and returned home with the first league win of the season. The Tigercats swept the court and earned a 70-43 win. Head coach Mike Jones is extremely pleased with the early season success and said the team is continually improving during each game.     The Lady Tigercats had two tough weekend games against Tekoa-Oakesdale and Liberty Christian, but the team lost more than the games, they also lost athletes.     With just five practices as a team, the LRS Broncos have rolled to a trio of victories. After defeating Columbia-Burbank in the season opener at home on Friday, 64-32, the Broncos traveled to Reardan for a Saturday night session. They handed their league rival a 65-37 loss. When it was certain that our boys’ football team would be heading to the Tacoma Dome for the state championship game, the school offered to the students the option of riding a rooters bus.     Marilyn J. Eastwood died on Sunday, Dec. 9, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, due to severe injuries suffered after a fall in her home. She was born May 14, 1932, to Bill and Aldena Erickson in Kent, Wash. Her only sibling, William Jr. (Bud), was born in 1948. In recent years, the city snowplows and grader have had incidents while plowing that have resulted in damage to parked vehicles along the curb.
