    The Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce is once again gearing up for its annual ice cream booth at the Wheat Land Communities’ Fair. Each year the ice cream booth is a popular location at the fair and serves as a fundraiser for the chamber. Volunteers are needed to fill shifts during the four-day fair.     New officers led their third meeting of the Ritzville 4-H Livestock club Aug. 13. Leading the Pledges were Easton Nelson and Trinity Wyma.     A family-favorite fair tradition is being revived for the 2012 Wheat Land Communities’ Fair. The talent show is returning to the Lions Club Amphitheater at the fairgrounds on Thursday, Aug. 30, beginning at 6 p.m. Performers are needed for the show and any talent is welcome.   • Grange bingo concession seeking volunteers

    The Ralston Grange is in need of volunteers to help work at the Grange’s bingo and food concession at the Wheat Land Communities’ Fair next week. The remaining shifts that need to be filled are on Friday from 4-7 p.m., Saturday from 1 p.m. until closing time, and Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. The concession is the main fundraiser for the Grange with proceeds used to maintain the hall and park in Ralston and the bingo building, as well as to support community service projects throughout the year.   • Lind’s park district levy survives, Washtucna levy fails

    The final ballot count was tabulated on Tuesday, Aug. 21, and the results show the Lind Park and Recreation District No. 3 maintenance and operation (M&O) levy passed. Aug. 21 served as the certification date and the elections office counted the last of the ballots early in the afternoon. The Lind M&O levy passed with 60.22 percent and 168 votes in favor of the levy. The levy needed 60 percent to pass and because it achieved the needed percentage, there is not a ballot recount.     Gary Lenard Wahl died at the age of 59 on Monday, Aug. 13, at his home on the farm in Lind. He was born on Father’s Day, June 21, 1953, to Lenard and Ava Wahl in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
