  • Too early to play the odds

    Dale Anderson|Updated Nov 8, 2022

I was reading the sports page this morning and saw the odds posted for basketball games that would be played later in the day. This early in the season there are a lot of games being played by the haves versus the have-nots. There are also some games that look highly competitive. The amount of points that the favorites are expected to win by varies from 2–32 points. Some of the game will be blowouts; a few will be nail biters. It’s early in the season and if you feel sec...

COLFAX - The path was simple for Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Harrington on Thursday, Nov. 3. Win two games and you go to state. Lose once – and you're eliminated. • With election over, normalcy should return

    Updated Nov 8, 2022

The midterm elections are over and the ballots should be counted, except for the ones mailed late yesterday. If you have to wait until the last minute to make up your mind on who to vote for, then it makes me wonder if you waited for the last repeated TV commercial to influence your judgment. I have seen a bunch of commercials for candidates. After the ad is done I have no idea what they stand for or believe in. I do know that if you vote for their opponent the world will come to an end just before Happy Hour begins....

  • Emergency ends, but many remain fired

    Elizabeth Hovde|Updated Nov 8, 2022

Don’t forget that even as Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee’s state of emergency ends after 975 days, there are still many people who were separated from their jobs because of a COVID-19 vaccine mandate the governor put into place. And that was done without a legislative body weighing in and offering information or debate. Families and individuals suffered, as did state services that ranged from ferry cancellations to increased stress on emergency responders. And even tho...

  • Remember veterans with more than flag-lowering

    Don Brunell|Updated Nov 8, 2022

Lowering our flags to half-staff is a solemn act that recognizes our fallen heroes, whether they be men and women in our armed forces or police officers killed in the line of duty. It is a vivid reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by those who serve us. Unfortunately, after those flags return to the top of the pole and time passes, we tend to forget that the suffering for the friends and families continues. The loneliness, financial stress, and emotional strain lives on....
