  • AAUW hosting book giveaway event May 22-14

    The Ritzville Chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) are hosting a book giveaway on May 22-24 from 3-6 p.m. daily. The giveaway will be inside the Ritzville Trading Company, on Washington Street. The books are provided for free to all interested readers and the entire stock must go.     The Washtucna Museum and Community Center (WHMCC) announced the second annual fundraiser will be held on Friday, May 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the Grange Hall in Washtucna. The event will include a Mexican buffet dinner and both a live and silent auction.     The Ralston Grange will be hosting a dinner at their hall in Ralston on Saturday, May 27. The participants in the annual ride, sponsored by the John Wayne Pioneer Wagon and Trail Riders organization, will be staying overnight in Ralston that evening.     Adams County Commissioner John Marshall and Adams County Economic Planning Director Stephen McFadden informed the Lind Town Council and community members on the expansion of the marijuana industry in the county during the regular meeting on May 9.     Orlen H. (Poke) Luiten died May 15 in Spokane. His home was in Davenport. He was born Oct. 30, 1924, in Rathdrum, to Jacob and Martha (Burghard) Luiten. The family later moved to Davenport where he went to school and was the senior class president and graduated in 1940. After joining the Navy and serving in WWII he later married Marjorie Sautter on June 4, 1959, in Coeur d’Alene. The two made their home in Davenport and raised five children.
