    The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter at Ritzville High School is partnering with Subway to deliver Subway sandwiches and platters the day of the Super Bowl, Sunday, Feb. 5. Since the FBLA chapter is in its first year, fundraising is key to continuing the chapter and allowing the members to attend various events.     The Adams County Noxious Weed Control Board will host its Annual Weed List Hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. in the Weed Board Office. The meeting is open for public comment. All Class A weeds must be added to the county list according to RCW 17.10. This year there is one addition, Oriental clematis, Clematis orientalis.   • New ambulance purchased to replace rapidly ailing unit

    After a scare recently, where the City of Ritzville had only one operational ambulance for 10 days out of a two week period of time, hospital commissioners acted last Thursday to purchase a new ambulance. They voted unanimously in favor of purchasing a 2012 North Star ambulance from Braun Northwest, Inc., of Chehalis. The unit costs about $118,000 including sales tax.     Tragedy strikes families in all different ways, and on Oct. 20, 1991, Sonya Elliott experienced the loss of loved one in a way she can never forget. Elliott and her fiancé, Mark Overholt, left their wedding shower in Spokane and started the trip back home.     Pheasants Forever’s hunter education and firearms safety class is set to begin in Lind. Classes are held at the Lind Gun Club beginning on Monday, Feb. 20, from 5-8 p.m. and continue all week, at the same time.     The deadline for the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) Center for Quality Communities scholarship is March 1. Applications for the scholarship can be picked up at City Hall during regular business hours.     The Adams County Health Department services continue to be offered in Ritzville at 108 E. Main. Effective Feb. 1, the office is to be open to the public on Wednesdays only, from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. These limited hours are a result of loss of funding and reduction in staffing.     Donald Dale Smith died January 18, 2012. He died peacefully in his home at Emerald Heights in Redmond Wash., surrounded by family. Don was born in Ritzville on October 27, 1925, the fourth of five children born to John T.A. and Clara (Nissen) Smith. He graduated from Ritzville High School in 1943.
