Lady Broncos need to win out

The Lady Broncos needed a win. From coach Randy Heidenreich’s perspective, they need three consecutive wins to avoid having to play in a loser-out game at the start of the Bi-County Tournament. Tuesday night, the Lady Broncos achieved the first win, defeating Springdale 68-37 in a decisive victory. The win is a key start to the final leg of the regular season. The Lady Broncos host Kettle Falls this Saturday and then finish the schedule on the road next Tuesday at Liberty.

Playing in Lind, the Lady Broncos rolled to a 26-23 lead at the half. They sealed the win with a huge effort in the fourth quarter when they outscored Springdale 20-5.

Davis Killian led the scoring with 19 points. Dalyn Killian and Brooke Pichette each delivered 10 points.

Brittany Ste. Marie scored eight and Kailey York and Andrea Bennett each had seven. Kaytlin Phillips scored four and Chelsey Heidenreich had three.

The win eases the pain of losing to Colfax 69-31 last Saturday and narrowly falling to St. George’s at home on Friday, 34-29.

Colfax blew that game open in the third quarter with a 26-6 run punctuated by five consecutive three-point buckets to start the second half.

“That just broke our backs,” Heidenreich said.

Heidenreich said fouls were a huge problem for both teams in the first half.

So were turnovers as the Lady Broncos had 25, 20 of which were whistled traveling calls.

Bennett led the team scoring with 11 points. York had nine and Phillips added four. Jenna Bennett scored three and Davis and Pichette each had two.

The St. George’s loss came down to miscues on defense in the fourth quarter.

“It was one of those games we needed to win,” Heidenreich said.

Davis led the team with 10 points. Heidenreich scored seven and Jenna added four. Andrea and Dalyn each scored three.
