No way!

For the last few years I’ve watched the Super Bowl game by myself. Okay sometimes my dogs walk in the room but they aren’t nearly as interested in the game as I am.

I have good reason to stay in the comfort of my home. I can watch the entire game without missing a play because someone wants to strike up a conversation about a game that took place years ago.

I get to see the commercials that may or may not make sense or even concern the product being sold. And I don’t have to drive those 11 miles to my home. I like that!

Now, we all know how the game turned out and a vast majority of the folks around here are totally bummed or infuriated or both. There isn’t any rhyme or reason for the game to turn out like it did.

But it did and we have to live with it.

Unless you are one of the players, coaches, family members or bet a ton of money on Seattle the outcome of the game probably shouldn’t ruin your life.

Now it is true that I woke up several times in the wee hours of the night wondering why the game ended the way it did. And yes it took me a while to fall back asleep only to wake up a couple hours later with the same thoughts.

But the world didn’t come to an end and I still had my job Monday morning so all is well in my world all things considered. Super Bowl XLIX was highly entertaining and had me squirming in my Lazy Boy.

It was a good feeling to see how slow the Seahawks started only to finish the first half with an unbelievable play made by an unsung hero from the last two games, Chris Matthews. Halftime score was all knotted up at 14-14.

The second half started off with total Seattle domination and 10 more points put on the scoreboard for a 24-14 lead.

But the Seahawks wouldn’t score again which means the Hawks failed to score in the first and fourth quarters.

The Seahawk defense was hurting with three key players, Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor all nursing injuries but playing their butts off.

Jeremy Lane injured his arm after intercepting a Tom Brady pass in the end zone in the first quarter.

Cliff Avril was lost in the third quarter with a concussion.

These injuries were key to the Patriots comeback victory. The Seahawk defense couldn’t stop New England’s last two TD drives which left the Seahawks in need of a TD in the final minutes of the game.

Seattle had a great drive and an unbelievable reception by Jermaine Kearse to set the Seahawks up at the five-yard line first and goal.

There were about 36 seconds left second and goal at the two or closer. And of course this is the time that the Seahawk magic left Arizona.

I remember wondering what play the Hawks would run. I figured it would be one of three plays: Another handoff to Lynch; a read option that either Lynch or Wilson would run or a fake handoff to Lynch and a naked bootleg option with Wilson either running it or passing it to a tight end if open.

That would give Wilson an option to throw it out of the end zone if the tight end was covered.

I never thought they would throw a quick slant but they did. Unfortunately it was picked off and that was the end of it.

Now, of course everyone is second guessing the “stupidest play ever called in a Super Bowl” not one of my quotes but one the media and former players have ranted.

This was about the time I was glad I was in my house so that no one could quote me. When the game ended I couldn’t bear the thought of watching the Patriots celebrate. The one thing I did want to hear is why the slant pass was called.

The answer wasn’t what I expected but I have to hand it to Pete Carroll who took the blame for the loss.

Then I watched as the Hawks’ offensive coordinator took the blame because he called the play. Finally Russell Wilson blamed himself for making a bad pass leading to the loss.

It doesn’t change the outcome of the game but it is reassuring that fingers weren’t pointed just an acceptance of the missed opportunity to capture a second straight Super Bowl trophy.

I have no idea how things will turn out this offseason. I have high hopes that the nucleus of the offense and defense will be there again in September.

If you were like me on Sunday you screamed no way!

Or maybe it was a number of other words that described an utterly sick feeling.

Don’t lose that Seahawk spirit 12’s, hang in there and hope for another great run in 2015!
