A Talented Group...

Most people who consider themselves fans usually can spot a team loaded with talent and either you love or hate them depending on who your favorite team is.

There are a lot of fans who get involved with Fantasy Sports picking players they think will have great seasons or games in order to make a buck or two. Problem is no one can predict an injury or a season when a player’s talent goes south.

As the Seattle Mariners season comes to another disappointing close, I guess we can look forward to the youth movement in hopes that these kids grow up fast and learn to win at the big league level. It is very upsetting to see so much potential end up having to go to Tacoma to work on their weaknesses. I wish I knew what it is about playing baseball in Seattle that makes it so difficult to become a consistent contender.

Safeco Field is really a great venue to watch a game and it should be an awesome place to play, but winning there another thing altogether.

I really hope that this team can get turned around and play a great brand of baseball because it still is a great game.

As you walk north from Safeco Field you will find Century Link Stadium home of the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders. Attendance at these games is never a problem because the Seahawks are playing great football and Seattle is a hotbed for soccer.

On Sunday night an early showdown of the NFC West’s best teams met at Century Link when the Seahawks hosted the much-hated San Francisco 49ers. How appropriate was it that this stormy relationship was interrupted by a lightning storm.

The game was delayed by an hour. And that is when the Seahawks started to get their game going, well at least the run game. Neither of the two young QB’s was able to get going very well and that is due in part to the best two defenses from last year.

Russell Wilson had a bit more success than Colin Kaepernick but neither lived up to their first week’s success. The 49ers turned the ball over five times intercepting the young 49er signal caller three times, the last one by the super confident Richard Sherman.

Honestly, I thought that Sherman was mouthy and arrogant, but the more I learn about him I realize that he is intelligent (Stanford Grad) and believes in his talent. That he does things like dances with cheerleaders after making an interception shows more that he’s having a great time and playing to the fans. The Seahawks fans love him for obvious reasons and it seems to be a match made especially for Seattle.

Sherman has a lot of reasons for not liking the 49ers and it starts at the top. Coach Jim Harbaugh was the head coach at Stanford when Sherman played there and it was not a pleasant relationship.

But give credit to Sherman for giving the 49ers credit for playing a solid defensive game and making it difficult for Seattle. He heaped a lot of praise on the 49ers, which shows that he understands when to trash talk and when it makes sense to compliment.

Seattle can win games a lot of different ways and in game situations they seem to be able to find out the best way. After two weeks the ‘Hawks lead the NFC West which as we all know can change in a heartbeat. This year’s team seems to be very talented and will never panic. Wilson will make a mistake now and then. I just hope he plays smart and can keep away from injuries, which can be tough when he runs the ball as much as he does.

This is one talented group with several players on the sidelines nursing injuries. It is going to be interesting and fun this year in Seattle and at any Seahawk fan’s home especially when they are at full strength. As Wilson likes to say after an interview, “Go Hawks!”
