    Emma Schmidt, age 95, died at her retirement home in Moses Lake on June 12, 2011. She was born in Marsh, Mont., on March 16, 1916, and was happily married to Edward Schmidt for 69 years. They were residents of Lind from 1947 until 2007. She is preceded in death by her son Elroy Schmidt. She is survived by her husband, Edward; her son, Errol Schmidt and his wife; three grandchildren and their spouses, and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Lind Community Church in September....

    Edna Reimer, 84, of Goessel, Kan., died Aug. 18, 2011, at Bethesda Home in Goessel. She was born March 21, 1927. She married Irvin Reimer Aug. 22, 1946, in Hillsboro, Kan. She was a homemaker. Reimer was preceded in death by her parents Abraham Friesen and Susanna (Penner) Friesen and an infant daughter, Suzanne Marie Reimer.     Longtime Ritzville resident Dorothy (Heinemann) Schoesler, 75, died on Aug. 23, 2011, at Guardian Angel Homes in Liberty Lake. She was born to Alfred and Emma Heinemann on Feb. 10, 1936, in Spokane. She was born at a low birth weight and premature, which made her a miracle baby of her time.     I really feel for the folks in the eastern part of this country. Hurricane Irene raised havoc on many states and left devastation in its path. I sincerely hope these people can pick up the pieces of their shattered lives and carry on. This has been a very weird year for weather around the nation.     Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced grants for more than 900 agricultural producers and rural small businesses across the country to implement renewable energy and energy efficiency measures in their operations.     ITEM – Two American men arrested by Iran over three years ago while hiking along the Iraq-Iran border have been sentenced to eight years in prison on charges that include espionage and illegal entry. A third hiker, a woman, was released last year because she was ill and has since refused to return for her trial.
