The talent show makes its return after a hiatus during the past few years. The activity serves as a kick off of the Wheat Land Communities’ Fair and begins at 6 p.m. tonight (Thursday). The Ritzville Nazarene Church’s Caravan Program begins on Wednesday, Sept. 5, with registration from 6-7:15 p.m. at the church. Parents are asked to come with their child for registration. The Lind-Ritzville FFA chapter is selling barbeque pork and beef for $10 a pound in the vendor booth at the Wheat Land Communities’ Fair. In addition to the pork and beef sales, the chapter at the Lind-Ritzville FFA Burger Booth includes hamburgers, chicken strips, french fries, barbeque beef sandwiches and more. Our community needs to continue to move forward, and we can move forward by spending money to encourage growth in our community. I will happily support funding the bond levy for Project 56. We are being asked to spend $0.66 per thousand to improve our school facility. This will be a huge help to our school and the students and the community. It is a small price to pay for progress. Regina (Mikki) Katherina Naasz Allan passed away on Monday, Aug. 6, at Life Care Center of Ritzville. She was born on April 16, 1930, to Johannes (Johnnie) Rudolph and Anna (Schauer) Naasz. She was raised with five brothers and two sisters in Montana. She married Donald Allan and had four children. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working various odd jobs. She was said to be a wonderful seamstress, and a collector of Mickey Mouse and angel memorabilia. She spent her last years as a resident of Life Care Center of Ritzville. It...
Esther Greenwalt passed away in Moses Lake on Thursday, Aug. 23, at the age of 93. She was born to Michael and Amelia (Bohnet) Winter on Jan. 6, 1919, in Irby, Wash. In 1941, she married John Greenwalt Jr. and together they raised three boys, Dennis, Michael and Richard. She spent her life raising her family and caring for their home. James E. Murphy, Jr., passed away at the age of 96 on Saturday, Aug. 18, in Hemet, Calif. He was born in Ritzville on Jan. 27, 1916, to James E. Murphy Sr. and Ruby Murphy. He was raised on the family wheat farm west of Washtucna near the Sandhills along with his younger sister, Evelyn. When he was 14, his father had a farm accident and he took over the farm operation. The Wheat Land Communities’ Fair and Rodeo event provides four days of family friendly entertainment and activities. Ticket prices at the gate beginning Thursday, Aug. 30, are $60 for a four-day family pass. The pass only applies to members of the immediate family, adults and kids, living under the same roof.
