    For the second year, the Reviving Rural Downtowns workshop is returning to Ritzville. Registration for the Sept. 21-22 event is now open.   • Kahlotus Fire destroys 28,000 acres, requires citizens to evacuate

    A massive fire threatened homes and crops near Kahlotus and required fire crews from neighboring counties to assist in fighting the flames. The fire started on Sunday, Aug. 21, on Highway 260 near Connell and quickly spread east toward the Town of Kahlotus, where it threatened homes and required those residing close to where the flames spread to evacuate the premises.     The annual Ritzville Jamboree kicks off the gridiron season for the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos football team on Friday, Aug. 26. The jamboree begins at 6 p.m. at Jimmie Snider Field.     Irma E. Gfeller died on Aug. 21 at her home in Lind at the age of 85. She was born on Feb. 8, 1931, in Torrington, Alberta, to Emmanuel and Magdalena Bossert and was a 1954 graduate of the school of nursing at the Provincial Health Service in New Westminster, B.C. Irma became an American citizen in 1960 after waiting the required five years. Irma married Gale Gfeller in Kamloops, British Columbia on Feb. 16, 1955.
