    The H.E. Gritman Senior Center hosts a pancake breakfast on Friday, Mar. 9, from 7:30 a.m. until noon. The center hosts a pancake breakfast on the second Friday of every month. Pancakes are served with the choice of ham or sausage, with a suggested donation of $5 per person. The breakfasts serve as fundraisers for the group.   • Book sale hosted by Friends, March 15-17

    Friends of the Ritzville Library are hosting the second annual book sale at the Ritzville Public Library on Mar. 15-17. The book sale is comprised of used books and is located in the library basement. The sale begins at 3 p.m. on Mar. 15 for a member’s only sale that concludes at 5 p.m. Those interested in becoming a member of the Friends group can pay the membership fee of $10 at the door.     Davis Killian has been selected to play on the 2B All-State volleyball team. The match takes place on Mar. 10 at 3 p.m. at Fife High School in Tacoma. This is the 27th annual all-state volleyball game put on by the Washington State Coaches Association.     March is colon cancer awareness month and the American Cancer Society (ACS) reminds individuals 50 years of age and older, to have regular colorectal cancer screenings. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States. “If there is a good thing about colon cancer, it is that it’s a slow process.     After nearly nine nightmarish months, an Idaho jury has found Martin Deeg innocent of aggravated assault. Thursday, Mar. 1, the jury took just 15 minutes to render a verdict of not guilty following the two-day court proceeding. Arrested in June of 2011, Deeg, of Ritzville, was charged with a felony following a neighborhood dispute in the Hayden Lake area of Kootenani County.     Herbert Kent passed away Feb. 25, he was 95 years old. He was born on the family homestead near Benge, to Charles and Pauline Kent on Dec. 27, 1916.
