Book sale hosted by Friends, March 15-17

Friends of the Ritzville Library are hosting the second annual book sale at the Ritzville Public Library on Mar. 15-17. The book sale is comprised of used books and is located in the library basement. The sale begins at 3 p.m. on Mar. 15 for a member’s only sale that concludes at 5 p.m. Those interested in becoming a member of the Friends group can pay the membership fee of $10 at the door.

The public sale begins on Friday, Mar. 16 at 11 a.m. and runs until 7 p.m. the same day. The public sale on Saturday, Mar. 17, runs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Since the library now has e-books available, the Friends have decided to have a raffle along with the book sale and the raffle item is a new Kindle Fire, valued at $199. Kindle Fire, a version of Kindle e-book readers developed by Amazon.com, allows users to access the Web, watch movies, download apps, play games and read books.

Raffle tickets cost $1 each and can be purchased from any Friends member, and tickets can be purchased at the door during the book sale. The staff at the Ritzville Public Library are not selling tickets but can put interested individuals in contact with a Friends member.

The Friends members host a fundraiser once a year and with the money earned, they help to fund activities or additions for the library.

This year, the Friends members helped supply ice cream for an ice cream social after the summer reading program concluded and also put money towards the purchase of e-books for the library.

Last year, the Friends members had about 300 boxes of books on display.

This year, the amount is significantly less but the quality is much higher. The books being sold include all genres of books, with a selection of hard backs or paperbacks, and the prices of books are still to be determined.

Along with the books, Friends members plan to sell various VHS videos at a discounted price. Some CDs are also to be available at the book sale.

For more information about the event, contact any of the Friends of the Ritzville Library members or president Julie Galbreath at 659-0143.
