    The annual Grant-Adams County Extension 4-H Super Saturday will take place on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Frontier Middle School in Moses Lake. This is an educational program that is offered free to interested youth and adults. The day is broken up into 50-minute workshops that cover topics from photography and healthy snacks to robotics and pork quality assurance. Those not enrolled in 4-H are welcome to attend.     Long time farmer from Connell, Orman Johnson, was elected Chairman of the Columbia Basin Development League, which was created in 1964 to support the federal Bureau of Reclamation’s Columbia Basin Project.     Lind-Ritzville athletic director Greg Whitmore is organizing volunteers for the 2015 track season home meets. In addition to the NE 2B League meet that brings 8 teams and the Undeberg Invitational, which drew 34 teams to the Ritzville Track, Whitmore said he has been asked to host the NE 1B/2B League Qualifier meet in Ritzville this year.   • Sheriff’s Department expands assets with K-9 unit

    In 1998 the last K-9 unit in Adams County retired. After a generous donation of $10,000 from Dan Nygard, the owner of the Othello Pronto Lube, and the allocation of $30,000 from the Adams County Commissioners out of the Drug Enforcement Fund, Adams County Sheriff John Hunt is able to work on bringing a K-9 unit back to the county.     July Brothers Kevin and Brien Marcus of Ritzville competed in the 2014 Iron Man Race in Coeur d’Alene. Brien Marcus finished the race in 15:03:44. Kevin finished just over the 17-hour mark and was the last competitor to cross the finish line, five seconds before midnight.     On Jan. 10 five athletes from the Broncos wrestling team made the trek to compete in the Springdale Tournament. The team was short a few athletes, with one injured, another out after having their tonsils removed and with some athletes ineligible to participate because of grades.
