Wheatland Jackpot draws contestants from four states

RITZVILLE – Kids from four states participated in this year's Wheatland Jackpot event, with Ritzville's own Alyssa Williams taking third in Champion Prospect Steers, and being named the Champion Intermediate Showman.

Garrett Kane of LaCrosse was named Reserve Junior Showman.

"The turnout was excellent, with 84 total entries from participants from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana," Lori McRae said. "This is nearly double a normal year. Prizes and cash payouts were made possible by show sponsors and entry fees."

McRae said the Wheat Land Communities' Fair has hosted the Jackpot since 2013, only taking off 2020 due to COVID restrictions.

"The Ritzville grounds have become a popular location for many of these cattle families, for its expanse of lush grass, ample shade trees and functional livestock facilities," McRae said. "Volunteers remain at the heart of all maintenance and event preparation on the grounds, and we couldn't do it without this community support. We hope to continue to offer this youth show for many years to come."

Zach Wilson traveled from Stanwood to judge the event, taking time to give pointers to showmen in the ring. Ringman Justin Palmer of Lind assisted in the event.
