Othello man arrested in Texas

Gutierrez-Guerrero wanted in repeated child-sex case

McALLEN, Texas - The U.S. Marshal's Service arrested an Adams County man Thursday, May 2, for the repeated sexual assault of an Ephrata girl he allegedly impregnated.

Jesus Antonio Gutierrez-Guerrero, 26, of Othello, was booked in the McAllen, Texas, municipal jail, where he is being held without bail while awaiting extradition to Washington.

He is wanted here on new charges of violation of a protection order and third-degree child rape after allegedly impregnating the girl, records show. He is also wanted for failing to register as a sex offender in Adams County.

Gutierrez-Guerrero was previously convicted of a sex offense with the same girl, records show. He pleaded guilty in 2022 to the charge of unlawful imprisonment with sexual motivation.

That conviction stemmed from a 2021 arrest after he admitted to having sex with the then-13-year-old Ephrata girl at his Othello home.

The previous conviction included a no-contact order.

As a convicted sex offender, he was also required to register with the Adams County Sheriff's Office, records show.

But he didn't register and an arrest warrant was issued in 2022 for Gutierrez-Guerrero.

His victim reportedly ran away at about the same time, records show. She turned up in 2023 at a Moses Lake hospital, where she gave birth to a boy.

As the victim was now 15 years old, hospital officials contacted police, who determined she had been with Gutierrez-Guerrero, records show.

Othello police then filed new charges of third-degree child rape and violation of a protection order.
