Washtucna schools reopening

WASHTUCNA – School board members adopted a return to school plan August 10, a Hybrid model that includes in-person and virtual learning, starting Monday, August 31.

Washtucna has a new high school principal, Mike Amend; and new Superintendent Todd Spear, who also works with Lamont/Sprague School District. See next week’s issue of The Journal for feature stories on the new administrators.

The current plan offers a choice of three different learning options, and parents/guardians are asked to contact the school district as soon as possible to inform them of their choice. The school district can be reached at 509 646 3237.

All three options are available for all students in grades K-12.

The first option of in-person learning is a Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. schedule with remote learning on Fridays.

The second option is a schedule of Monday and Wednesday in-person learning with remote learning Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

The third option is full-time remote learning, and includes the option to return to in-person learning at any time.

All remote learning will be directed by Washtucna teachers. Selected students will have access to campus and resources on Friday mornings, as planned with administration and staff.

Conferences will be scheduled with each student and their family prior to the start of the school year, individually or virtually. Conferences will be used to discuss each learning option as well as distribute technology and review the virtual learning platforms.

A detailed reopening plan will soon be available on the school website, which includes an application for families to ask questions and review questions already asked by others.
