Vehicle crosses center line

Both drivers hospitalized

GRANT COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash left one driver airlifted to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richand, and a second driver transported to the Othello Community Hospital Monday, June 8.

According to the Washington State Patrol, German Fariasacevedo, a 29-year-old male from Othello, was driving eastbound on State Highway 26 when he crossed the center line, striking the left side of a vehicle in the westbound lane driven by Samantha Valenciano. Both vehicles came to rest in the westbound ditch.

Trooper Jason Aebishcher responded to the accident, which happened shortly before 10 p.m.

Valenciano, 20, was taken to the hospital and Fariasacevedo was airlifted. Both were wearing their seatbelts. According to the report, drugs or alcohol were not involved, but charges are pending against Fariasacevedo.

Both vehicles — a 2006 Nissan Altima driven by Fariasacevedo, and a 2012 Nissan Altima driven by Valenciano — were totaled and impounded as evidence.

The cause of the accident, which took place near milepost 26 of eastbound Hwy. 26, remains under investigation.
