City Council approves $257,943 payment for Standpipe project

RITZVILLE — The City Council has agreed to pay $257,943 to Industrial Coatings Unlimited for work on the Standpipe Recoating Project.

City Engineer Scott Yeager said the amount is 55% of the original contract.

His presentation came during a May 5 council meeting.

The first pay estimate includes contractor equipment mobilization, cleaning and preparation of the reservoir interior, sandblasting of the tank interior, primer coating of the tank interior, final coating of the tank interior except the floor and an electrical rough-in for tank mixer, according to Yaeger.

Also included was a change order to remove an interior ladder which was corroded and structurally damaged.

Mayor Gary Cook suggested holding the payment until the tank was in the stage of curing.

“This has been kind of a battle with those guys to get done on time,” Cook said.

Public Works Director Dave Braezeal said the final coat was applied that afternoon, and it is in the curing stage.

“It should be cured out by Friday, and Sunday at the latest; so we should be back on line by Tuesday and in full operation, depending on how our sample comes back from the lab,” Breazeal said.

It was a simple test to make sure the water was drinkable before it gets put in the system, Braezel said.

Cook thanked him for the update and said the payment would not be held.

Councilwoman DeDe Boyer motioned approval of the first pay estimate, with 45% remaining.

The motion was seconded by Yeager and approved by all except Mark Weigand who voted ‘no.’
