SkillSource program expands to Ritzville

The Ritzville Public Library now offers help and training for those seeking employment or occupational advancement.

The Moses Lake SkillSource office has recently started sending a representative every week to the library to help interested residents find work-related support. A vast variety of helpful programs is available in partnership with Work Source, Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Big Bend Community College, Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), Employment Security Department and Job Corps.

Marcia Bercot, from the Moses Lake SkillSource office visited the library last Tuesday for two hours to be available to help interested local residents as well as answer questions regarding SkillSource resources. The library has not offered a service like this before in Ritzville, only in Othello. However the agency and Library is hoping to tap into local need and interest to justify providing on-going service each week.

Bercot explained that the agency can help with work-related skills such as resumes, job searches and specific occupational skills training. Funding is available to help with such needs as driver training for obtaining a CDL (Commercial Driver License).

There is also a classroom program to obtain a high school diploma (not a GED) for those over 21 years old. Bercot herself is a certified trainer to teach computer skills—such as Word, Excel and Microsoft Office certifications.

For those interested in advancing in farming, the OIC (Opportunity Industrialization Center) provides help in the agriculture field. Even college scholarships are available for those who qualify. While interviewing Ms. Bercot, it becomes clear there is much more help, training, guidance and programs available.

SkillSource visits are now scheduled every Tuesday between 11-1 p.m. in the basement conference room of the library. No advance notice or registration is needed; simply drop in for help and information. The WorkSource website (www.worksourcewa.com) can provide more information on supportive programs, specific skills, training and currently available jobs.
