Adams County Budget Clarification

In the Jan. 11 edition of The Journal, there were multiple clarifications regarding the 2018 Adams County budget. Commissioner John Marshall assisted with providing clarifications.

The 2018 budget was approved on Dec. 20 in Ritzville, with all three commissioners present.

Previously, to help fund an Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputy position, funds were diverted out of road maintenance to police operations for two consecutive years. The money did not fund a new deputy position, Marshall explained.

For this year’s budget, the funds were put back into Public Works for road maintenance, but the ACSO was still provided the same level of funding in the current budget.

In regards to personnel, interpreters are currently available at the Adams County Courthouse for cases, and Marshall stated the commissioners had considered creating a full-time staff position.

The budget included a $20 raise in the insurance cap for all employees.

The article inaccurately listed the funding amount for the Planning and Building Department, which has $412,490 allocated in the 2018 budget.
