Lind, Ritzville students excel at annual Bi-County Academic Contest

The Ritzville School District facilities hosted the annual Bi-County Academic Contest on Nov. 15, where students from across the region came to compete in a variety of contests.

The Bi-County Academic contest is an annual event that brings students in third through eighth grade to compete in various academic events.

The students had the opportunity to test their knowledge and skills in math, spelling, interpretative speech, impromptu speech, geography and argumentative speech.

Other schools participating in the competition included Reardan, Wilbur, Liberty, Harrington, Odessa, Creston, Davenport and Sprague-Lamont.

In the math contest, fifth grade Brody Boness from Ritzville placed fifth and Lind-Ritzville’s Brock Kinch also received fifth place in the sixth grade contest.

Andrew Miller placed third for Lind-Ritzville in the eighth grade math contest.

Ritzville’s Allesandra Mendez placed fifth and classmate Alison Bartlett finished in sixth during the third grade spelling contest. In the fourth grade spelling competition, Ritzville’s Benton Earle placed third.

In the fifth grade contest, Ritzville’s Alyssa Williams placed fifth and classmate Emmy Klewin finished in sixth.

Lind-Ritzville student Kemper Smith placed third, while classmate Michael Nichols finished in fifth in the sixth grade spelling contest.

The first place winner in the fifth grade interpretative speech contest was Savannah Carruth.

Ashleigh Swartz also took home the title for the sixth grade interpretative speech competition, placing first for Lind-Ritzville.

In the seventh grade contest, Lind-Ritzville student Willow Rountree earned a second place finish.

Dakota Killian received first place for her speech in the eighth grade interpretative speech contest.

Second place in the fifth grade impromptu speech contest went to JP McAnally. For the sixth grade competition, Brayden Kiel placed third for Lind-Ritzville.

In the seventh grade impromptu speech contest, Hayden Stone placed fourth for Lind-Ritzville.

For the fifth grade geography competition, fourth place went to Ritzville’s Zach Klein.

Lance Williamson earned first place in the sixth grade geography contest for Lind-Ritzville.

For the seventh grade contest, Taylor Galbreath finished in sixth place for Lind-Ritzville.

Also netting a top place finish in the geography contest was Lind-Ritzville’s Alexis Melcher, who earned the top spot in the eighth grade contest.

Ritzville’s Brix Curtis finished first in the fifth grade argumentative speech contest, while Lind’s LeaCadia Bren placed third.

In the sixth grade contest, Shawn Steinberger also placed first for Lind-Ritzville.

Raegan Snider placed fifth in the seventh grade argumentative process, while Amy Anderson earned a second place finish in the eighth grade competition. Both students are from Lind-Ritzville Middle School.

Local students participating in the contest also included spelling contestants Carloa Garcia, Justin Gering, Brenden Miller, Beau Fode, Drake Lasen, Camden Shaver and Savannah Pray.

In the math contest, Ryan Anderson and Hayden Melcher were participants.

Rounding out the list of participants is Owen Telecky, who competed in the eighth grade impromptu speech contest.
