Lady Broncos drop match to Colfax, defeat Asotin

The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos volleyball team continued the last round of Northeast 2B South League play on Oct. 19 with a three-set loss against Colfax: 25-15, 25-9, 25-7.

The Lady Broncos bounced back on Oct. 21 to sweep Asotin in three sets: 25-20, 25-10, 25-23.

Against the Lady Bulldogs, Head Coach Cari Galbreath said LRS started the match strong, but the pressure from Colfax caused the Lady Broncos to lose their focus and momentum, especially when it came to their passing and offense.

“It seemed like we couldn’t do anything from there,” Galbreath said as Colfax dominated the scoring in the next two sets.

Lacey Miller had 15 assists while Peyton Curtis and Rachel Schell led the team with four kills. Emma Aldrich recorded one ace.

On defense, Ellie Gering led the match with seven digs and Curtis notched one block.

After the match against Colfax, Galbreath said the team held a meeting where the athletes renewed their focus on committing to their season goals as a team, as well as their mindset of playing for each other.

Against the Lady Panthers, Galbreath said the Lady Broncos focused on playing their style of game and remaining a cohesive unit on the court for the duration of the match.

Miller had 20 assists, while Curtis had 10 kills and Kierstin Witt recorded three aces. On defense, Curtis notched three blocks and Gering had 11 digs.

The Lady Broncos, who are 6-3 in league play and 8-5 overall, wrapped up their regular season against Liberty on Oct. 24, Senior Night. The seniors recognized before the match were Aldrich, Curtis, Kiel, Schell, Tessa O’Brien and Alarah Pierce-Pulliam.

Galbreath acknowledged Senior Night can be emotional for athletes and their families, but she wanted the team to focus on playing Liberty. She also recognized the contributions the six seniors have made to the team and said, “it will be tough when their season comes to an end.”

If the Lady Broncos defeat the Lady Lancers, both teams will tie for second place in the league. Whether they win or lose, Galbreath said LRS will enter the District 7 Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will play the Northeast 2B North No. 2 seed on Oct. 26.

Galbreath said she and the Lady Broncos will not look past Liberty, especially since they may have to play them in the District 7 Tournament.
