Dye appointed to National Conference of State Legislatures committee

Rep. Mary Dye’s passion in bringing the essential service of broadband fiber and infrastructure to rural Washington continues to be one of her main legislative priorities.

With Dye’s dedication to this key issue, the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) has officially appointed her to serve on the standing committee on Communications, Financial Services and Interstate Commerce.

“It’s an honor to be selected as one of Washington state’s representatives on this national committee,” said Dye, R-Pomeroy.

“I will continue to advocate for the people of rural Washington to have equal access to the same technology that many urban areas take for granted. I look forward to working with the committee, and its members, on the national level so I may bring insight and reforms back to our state.”

The Communications, Financial Services and Interstate Commerce (CFI) Committee serves as a forum for legislators, and legislative staff, to exchange information on state policy approaches for communications, including broadband, commercial trade issues between states and the management of state monies and assets.

The CFI Committee is responsible for protecting states’ interests in federal decisions regarding electronic commerce, banking, insurance, securities and other financial services issues, interstate commerce and taxation of electronic transactions, telecommunications and interstate business activity taxes.

“The lack of reliable, redundant and affordable broadband fiber creates a number of challenges for rural communities, not only in educational growth and success, but also in economic development and job growth,” continued Dye.

“Telecommunications is one of my legislative priorities. My involvement with NCSL will further heighten awareness of the needs of underserved Americans who are the unfortunate causalities of the national broadband divide.”

Dye will travel to Boston in the coming week to attend her first committee meeting.
