Driver loses consciousness, results in four-vehicle collision

There was a four-vehicle collision on Ninth Avenue on July 19.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Ritzville Police Department and Washington State Patrol responded to the scene.

According to Ritzville Police Chief Dave McCormick, a Chevy Venture, driven by Amber Wickware, ran into the back of a GMC truck that was parked on the wrong side of the street.

The force of the Venture pushed the truck into the back of the trailer. The trailer then struck a Chevy pickup truck, which was also parked on the wrong side of the street.

Wickware told Officer Matt Carlson she had suffered a laceration on her foot and decided to drive to the hospital, taking her three children with her. After the driver lost consciousness on Division Street, turned onto Ninth and hit the truck.

Wickware’s unconsciousness was the result of extreme blood loss from the laceration on her foot. Ritzville Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Ritzville EMT’s transported Wickware to the hospital. There were no injuries that were a result of the accident.

There was no sign of impairment from Wickware. It was later discovered that two of the three children were not in child restraints.

The Venture was not drivable after the accident and B&B Towing impounded the vehicle.

Wickware was cited for driving while license suspended in the third degree and two counts of failure to use child restraints. The accident is under investigation.
