Fire District 1 stops grass fire

Adams County Fire District 1 snuffed out a small grass fire on the night of Friday, July 14, near Interstate 90 Eastbound Milepost 220.

After receiving the call at approximiately 5:25 p.m., Fire District 1 responded with two water tankers and four brush trucks - with 13 firefighters - to the scene.

Fire Chief Scott Kembel said the fire burned a couple of acres of native grass next to the freeway. Firefighters spent a couple of hours at the scene extinguishing the fire and mopping up.

A couple of Washington State Patrol units assisted Fire District 1 with traffic control at the scene. Kembel said there was no need to close any lanes as firefighters were able to get their equipment off the road without disrupting traffic.

No firefighters or civilians were injured at the scene. Kembel said the cause of the fire is unknown and there will not be a follow up investigation.
