Ritzville Police Department Reports

March 2, 5:28 p.m. –

A burglary was reported at a storage garage in the 400 block of west First Avenue. After the building was checked, the owner responded and did not report any stolen items. The owner said they would secure the door with new locks.

March 2, 6:57 p.m. –

An officer observed a vehicle at the 300 block of east Second Avenue that matched a recently stolen vehicle out of Othello. Through investigation, Kyle M. Foster, 27, of Othello was arrested and booked into the Adams County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of burglar tools.

March 3, 1:06 a.m. – A complainant reported a vehicle had rolled down a hill and struck a power pole and fence in the 300 block of south Adams Street. Officers and the Ritzville Fire Department responded to secure the area until Avista Utilities could arrive to repair the downed power lines. Through investigation it was determined the vehicle rolled down the hill snapping off the power pole between Third and Fourth Avenue on Adams Street before crashing into a fence. The owner said the vehicle had been disabled for sometime and it appeared as if someone removed the blocks that had been in front of the tires. The vehicle was left until the power pole had been replaced and all hazards secured.

March 3, 9:00 a.m. –

A request was received from school administration for additional patrols in the area of the high school and gym for students driving in an unsafe manner. Officers advised they would be in the area when available to address the complaint.

March 3, 3:45 p.m. –

A request for standby was received at a local business on Galbreath Way for a child exchange. The standby was completed without incident.

March 3, 5:56 p.m. –

A request for standby was received while the truck involved in an earlier accident was removed from the scene as the owner could not be in the area due to a restraining order. The standby was completed without incident.

March 3, 8:36 p.m. –

A request was received to observe a suspicious vehicle parked near the Sheriff’s impound lot. Upon officer contact, the owner of the vehicle advised she was visiting an inmate at the jail and was unsure where to park. The officer instructed the subject where to park and which door to enter for the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office.

March 4, 5:39 a.m. –

A complainant advised someone was trying to put a window back in they had removed earlier and they observed footprints on the desk. An officer responded and checked the area with n indication there had been anyone in the area.

March 4, 9:24 a.m. – A complainant requested assistance for problems with a child exchange that occurred the previous week in Ritzville. The complainant advised the spouse was not going to return their child per the court order. The officer contacted the spouse and explained the concerns. It was suggested if the subjects cannot abide by the parenting plan approved by the court they need to agree to changes or go back to court to have the order modified.

March 4, 10:22 a.m. –

A complaint advised a burglary at a garage on the 200 block of east Broadway Avenue. The officer requested an itemized list of the stolen items.

March 4, 9:40 a.m. – A complainant requested a welfare check on a subject living in the 500 block of west Main Avenue. The subject was contacted and is fine. The subject was advised to contact the complainant to let them know they were okay.

March 4, 1:07 p.m. –

A traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of Main Avenue and Division Street. The officer arrested Justin D. Whitney, 35, of Ritzville and administratively booked him into the Adams County Jail for driving while suspended.

March 4, 10:30 p.m. – A complainant reported an assault at the 100 block of north Washington Street. The victim did not report the incident until they were in the Tri-Cities and they chose not to return to Ritzville to provide a statement or cooperate with the investigation. The case was closed due to an un-cooperative victim.
