Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887

Glenda Lu Stockwell

Glenda Lu Stockwell, also known as Deanie or Virg by her brothers and sisters, finally succumbed to her battle with cancer on June 6 at East Adams Rural Hospital.

She was born in Auburn, California, Jan. 4, 1953, to proud parents Braz and Mae Goodall.

If asked, her entire family would say she mastered the entire English language in under a year.

Whenever anyone reminisces about Glenda, they have to reflect and acknowledge her ability to make conversation; she was quite the talker.

Her son Jeff said, in remembering my mother’s life, my first memories were her love of family. It seemed like everyday she would bring alive stories, most of which were hilarious, of her brothers and sisters, and always gave respect to her father and mother.

When nieces, nephews, cousins, or any family for that matter, visited, my mom would dote over them. If you put a baby in front of her, you would see pure joy radiate from her!

The second set of memories was witnessing her in social settings...bottom line: my mom had no equal. She could strike up a conversation with anyone!

It seemed like within minutes there would be a small crowd around her, and all would be laughing and carrying on; as if they were long lost friends who had reunited.

So many memories...but I would like to end on that she was a very hard worker, who put others before herself. I believe her selfless and generous example helped guide my sister and I where we are today. We were truly blessed with her work ethic.

In all that she did, she especially had great pride in her eight years working as District Court Clerk for Adams County and her job as a mother, raising her son and daughter, and being a loving wife.

Glenda was preceded in death by her father Braz, mother Mae, sisters Annabelle and Debbie, and brothers Paul, Junior, Tommy and JM.

She is survived by sisters Wanda and Linda, husband Glen Stockwell, daughter Lisa (Mitch) Derrick, granddaughters Kennidi, Madysen and Reagan, son Jeff (Cassandra) Stockwell, and granddaughters Hailey, Erin and Auburn.

Her service will be held on June 24 at 11 a.m. in the Wapato Bible Baptist Church in Wapato. All of her friends are welcome.

She will be brought back home to Ritzville, and when Glen passes, they both will rest together at the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.

I would like to give thanks and praise to my father for being by her side for last 50 years, 48 of those married.

His love and support brought her special smile, a glimmer and tear to my mother’s eye.

In closing I am honored to have told you a little bit about the life of my precious mother. It’s a life that should be celebrated and remembered with laughter and love.
