Lind Council approves marijuana moratorium ordinance

The Lind Town Council approved Ordinance No. 2017-02 pertaining a marijuana moratorium in the town during the regular meeting on Tuesday, May 23.

The ordinance establishes a six-month moratorium on marijuana producing, processing and sales in the town.

After Adams County Commissioner John Marshall presented to the Council, they decided to create a moratorium to provide additional time to discuss rules and regulations and also receive community input.

A public forum will be held to allow residents to voice opinions about the marijuana industry expanding to the town.

The Council approved the document unanimously.

Councilmember Paula Bell suggested the council discuss the marijuana buffer zone the country requested.

Bell motioned for a two-mile buffer zone and it failed due to the lack of a second.

The Council motioned to establish no buffer zone outside of the town. The motion passed with Bell opposed.

Mayor Jamie Schmunk stated residents will receive garbage service on Wednesdays beginning May 31.

She also informed the town is currently seeking applicants for part-time seasonal help. They will continue to advertise the position until it is filled, she explained.

Schmunk informed she has a meeting with the Federal Emergency Management Agency regarding receiving funding to repair the streets damaged by the winter weather conditions.

The Town will be hosting a garbage dump day on Saturday, June 3.
