East Columbia Basin Irrigation District announces director position filing period

East Columbia Basin Irrigation District announced the filing period is now open for the position of Director for Division No. five.

This Director Division is that part of the East District located in Franklin County and that part located in Adams County, bounded on the north by the Grant-Adams County line and on the east by the East District boundary.

The West boundary of this Director Division follows Booker Road from the Grant/Adams County line to Cunningham Road where it then follows Cunningham Road to the east for three miles to the range line separating Ranges 30 and 31 East, which it follows to the Franklin/ Adams County line.

An individual must be a qualified voter within the Director Division her or she represents in order to serve as Director. To qualify as a voter, an individual must own land within the District and vote in the Director Division in which he or she resides or is nearest to his or her residence.

The length of term is three years and begins in January 2017.

A Declaration of Candidacy Petition must be signed by a minimum of 10 qualified voters in the Division must be filed in the East District office by 5 p.m. on Nov. 7, 2016 in order to be considered for the position. The election date is Dec. 13, 2016.

Candidacy petitions may be obtained by calling the East District’s main office in Othello at 509-488-9671. The main office is located at 55 North Eighth in Othello.
