2016 Puttin’ On The Ritz results

The golfing women of this town drove, pitched and putted eighteen holes with grand style and good humor at this year’s women’s golf tourney.

In years past, we’ve endured sweltering temps and accordingly bad things happened such as messed up makeup, uncontrollable hair, failed deodorant, pitted clothing, and attitude.

Not this year, however.

The day topped out in the low 80’s with a 10 mile per hour breeze, and the greens were so perfectly manicured as to inspire pride. All was well, no visitors complained, and the tourney progressed without a hitch. It was akin to miraculous.

Our winners in the first flight were Emily Gordon and Darci Counsell at 73 for the first gross, and in second gross, Ronna Galbreath and Debbie Thaemert at 80.

The winners of the first net were Cathy Jones and Erin Harris at 61, while second went to Mary Owens and Beth Habib at 62. At third net were Jean Anderson and Barbara Trout at 63, and in fourth, Dani Archer and Diane Schwab at 65.

In the second flight, first net winners were Julie Lloyd and Yvonne Alder at 57. Second net winners were Tina Craig and Donna Schmierer at 59.

The third net in the second flight was Debbie Bolt and Elke Longwill at 62, and rounding out the net winners was Lori Olson and Andee Heider at 71.

Never one to step on another’s glorious moment, I nevertheless must mention that other especially important awards were made such as the longest putt on 5 at 34’9”. I made it.

It is one of my greatest golfing accomplishments and the very first, and possibly only, award I will ever receive for the game I play. Other awards were presented for like accomplishments, but surely no other was received with more appreciation.

We all enjoyed an excellent lunch at the clubhouse café, and thank Chris and her staff for their good service and food. We thank Patty Rueb for her work putting this tournament together this year. She manages so very well despite the complaints.

We thank the men who helped assign and prepare the carts, wash them, and see that clubs were loaded on the right ones. We thank Dan Duff and his staff for keeping our fairways and greens in park-like condition.

And thanks to the ladies of the Ritzville Women’s Golf Group who chipped in (no pun) their time and efforts to make this our best tournament yet!

Now on to 2017!
