Margaret T. Heuston (Cushman)

Margaret T. Heuston (Cushman), 98, was born on Oct. 23, 1917, and died on May 19, 2016. She was born in Tacoma to Ben and Slava Heuston. Her maternal grandfather Cristof Balabanoff M.D. delivered her into the world.

As a teenager she followed a family tradition of working at Paradise Mt. Rainier. Margaret was an accomplished poet, receiving awards and recognition from friends.

She received degrees from the College of Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran College, becoming a beloved elementary teacher, teaching in Tacoma, Leavenworth, a two room school in Benge, Spokane and the Federal Way area.

Later in life her church became very important to her. All her life she prided herself in being a stylish dresser.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother: Paul Heuston M.D. and Frank Heuston. She leaves behind her son Ben Kable of Joseph, Oregon; stepsons, Alan, Bill and Paul Cushman of Olympia, stepson Mike Mackay of Bellingham and stepdaughters Chris Ann Grey and Sharon Gates of Spokane.

She has been interred at Alder Slope Cemetery of Enterprise, Oregon.
