Local, statewide candidates file for Primary in August

For the August 2 Primary election there are 97 candidates who have filed for the 22 open offices within Washington State. Filing for these positions took place between the week of May 16-May 20.

In Congressional District 4 the U.S. Representative office will be voted on in a partisan two-year term. Incumbent Dan Newhouse, Republican, will be running against Clint Didier and Glenn Jakeman who also prefer the Republican Party, as well as John Malan and Doug McKinley who prefer the Democratic Party.

For Legislative District 9 there are three positions on the ballot. Current State Senator Mark Schoesler will be running for another four-year term unopposed.

For the two-year State Representative Position 1 filing, Mary Dye, Jennifer Goulet and Hailey Roemer will be listed on the ballot. For State Representative Position 2 Joe Schmick will be running unopposed.

Adams County will be voting on two County Commissioner positions, which are both four-year terms and the Sheriff position, which is a two-year unexpired term.

In District 1, John Marshall will run unopposed for a County Commissioner seat.

For the District 2 commissioner position incumbent Roger Hartwig will be running against Kenneth Johnson.

In the Sheriff position Dale Wagner will be running unopposed.

Adams County Superior Court will have the Judge Position 1 on the ballot. This is a four-year term position and Steve Dixon will be running unopposed.

The United States Senator office is a six-year term position and there are 17 people who will be listed on the ballot in August; Sam Wright, Patty Murray, Mike Luke, Donna Rae Lands, Chris Vance, Uncle Mover, Chuck Jackson, Philip Cornell, Alex Tsimerman, Ted Cummings, Scott Nazarino, Dr. Pano Churchill, Mohammad Said, Thor Amundson, Jeremy Teuton, Zach Haller and Eric John Makus.

Statewide there will be nine filings open. In the Governor position, which is a four-year term, there are 11 candidates to be listed on the ballot.

In the four-year term Lieutenant Governor position there are also 11 candidates on the ballot. Secretary of State is another four-year term with just three candidates.

State Treasurer lists five candidates for the four-year term position. For State Auditor there are also five candidates and this position holds a four-year term.

Two candidates will be on the ballot for the four-year term Attorney General positions. Commissioner of Public Lands will be on the ballot come August with seven candidates filing for the four-year term.

Superintendent of Public Instruction with a four-year term has nine candidates listed on the ballot followed by Insurance Commissioner with three for the four-year term.

Also under the Statewide elections are the Supreme Court Justice positions 1, 5 and 6, which are all 6-year term positions.

For Position 1 running are Mary Yu and David DeWolf. In Position 5 there is Barbara Madsen, Greg Zempel and John Scannell. In position 6 Charles Wiggins and Dave Larson will be on the ballot.

The Court of Appeals, District 3 and District 2 will have the Judge Position 1 on the ballot in August with its six-year term. Running for this position is George Fearing and Patrick McBurney.
