Lind-Ritzville FFA Alumni hosting farm equipment safety training seminar

Summertime in the Columbia Basin brings two certainties: young adults seeking employment during the school break and farmers looking to hire safe, knowledgeable help to bring in the harvest.

In an effort to bring these needs together, the Lind-Ritzville FFA Alumni has joined forces with several area agricultural businesses and associations to host the second annual Farm Equipment Safety Training.

A Safety Seminar sponsored by The Adams County Farm Bureau kicks off the day’s events at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 27, at the Lind Gun Club located on the Lind Rodeo Grounds.

General farm and auger safety will be the main topics of discussion. An Equipment Maintenance Seminar presented by St. John Hardware, where participants will gain basic farm equipment maintenance and servicing skills, will follow this.

The knowledge gained in these seminars will be put to practice when participants will then have hands-on experience and drive time with combines and tractors with bank-out wagons courtesy of Evergreen Implement and St. John Hardware.

While recognizing one of a business’ greatest investments is its employees, the goal of the Lind-Ritzville FFA Alumni is to better prepare participants for farm employment, while being safety focused. The need for knowledgeable, safety minded employees in agriculture continues to increase and this seminar is designed to help meet this need.

Local ag producers are also invited to attend to possibly make contact with potential employees completing the training. Certificates of completion and lunch will be provided.

This program is open to any student over the age of 16 who is looking for summer farm employment. Farmers are also encouraged to enroll existing employees who would benefit from the training.

Students under the age of 16 are invited to attend the safety and maintenance portions of the day at a discounted rate.

For questions or to register for the event, contact FFA Advisor Andy Williams at 509-650-7275.

The registration is $50 per person and all registrations must be completed by Friday, May 27. Enrollment is limited to the first 50 registrants.
