Marian Janet (Depee) Laib

Marian Janet (Depee) Laib was born June 10, 1940, in Wallace, Idaho to Frank and Dorothy (King) Depee. Marian died in the early morning hours on Friday, April 16, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Marian moved with her parents and younger brother Kenneth to Washtucna, in her early life. She was a good student and valedictorian of her class at Washtucna High School, where she graduated in 1957. Following high school, she attended Kinman Business School for three months and then dropped out to marry the love of her life, Delmar Laib. She moved with Delmar to his brother Alvin’s wheat ranch at Warden. When Alvin retired, Delmar and Marian took over the farm where they have remained until the present time.

Marian loved to swim and in her younger years was a lifeguard at the local pool where she grew up. She enjoyed sewing and cross stitching for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She played the organ/piano for church for 40-plus years and directed the choir, as well as the junior choir in previous years. She had a great love for children and when her granddaughter, Kaycie entered kindergarten at Warden Elementary, Marian volunteered to help in class. She later was offered a position as a para-educator and worked there until the cancer required her to retire. The battle continued until her death.

Marian had a way of brightening up a room when she entered it. She was very loved by the teachers and children she worked with as well as everyone else whose life she touched.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Depee and Dorothy (King) Depee. Marian is survived by her husband of 58 years, Delmar Laib; her children Tim Laib; Glen (Michelle) Laib; Karen (Mike) McClure; brother Kenneth (Elaine) Laib; grandchildren Nicole Rutledge, Leslie Ann Winter, Shawn Laib, Kaycie Rollins, Samantha Wilmart and Mark Laib and great-grandchildren Kaylee Winter, Wyatt Rutledge and Harper Joy Rollins.

Funeral arrangements were with Kayser’s Chapel of Memories, Moses Lake. Services were held Thursday, April 21, at 10 a.m., at the Warden Community Church. Sign the online guestbook or leave a note for the family at http://www.kayserschapel.com.
