Pioneer Trail planning meeting in Ritzville

On Wednesday, May 11, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will be holding a public meeting to invite the public to help plan for the future of the John Wayne Pioneer Trail in eastern Washington.

The meeting will take place at the Washington Association of Wheat Growers located at 109 East First Avenue in Ritzville from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This meeting along with one other to be held in Preston, will serve as the second round of public meetings, the first of which took place in early March in Ellensburg and Cheney.

The State Parks staff plans to provide information on the planning process and gather information and comments from the public in regards to the long-term plan for the John Wayne Pioneer Trail.

Specific trail-related issues to be discussed are noxious weed control and vegetation management, trailhead and camping opportunities, and fencing and trail-use permits.

The State Parks group will present on the preliminary recommendations from the previous meetings as well.
