Strap up for football season

Hard to imagine with all of the heat that we’ve had this summer that football season has crept up on us but it has. The Seattle Seahawks will be playing the Denver Broncos Friday night at Century Link Field in the first preseason game for both teams.

The starters will probably only play a couple of series if that and the youngsters that want to fulfill their dreams of playing in the NFL will need to make big impressions to supplant some talented starters or even their backups.

But these kids have to start somewhere and if the Seahawks drafted a player or even signed them as a free agent they must have seen something they liked about these prospects to give them an opportunity to wear the Seahawk colors if even for just a few weeks.

Seattle has signed some of their high profile players including QB Russell Wilson. Many of us weren’t sure if the deal would be done before the opening of training camp but the paperwork was signed before the helmets were put on.

He will be making a whole lot of money but no one can argue that Wilson has been a real winner.

Sure we have a bad taste in our mouth after the interception in the desert at the Super Bowl but we are all ready for another big season and playoff run with a young team that is still hungry to get back to the big game.

Most Seahawks fans are concerned that Kam Chancellor is holding out because he wants to renegotiate his contract. Chancellor can be fined for missing each day of training camp so it makes you wonder just how much a player can afford to lose before they realize that they could buy a nice home with what they lost.

Remember Kam, you signed the contract and the Seahawks don’t have a lot of money under the salary cap after signing some good talent in the offseason.

I’m glad I don’t have to worry about making players, coaches, management and ownership happy. I’d probably lose my job in a 24-hour period of time. And I would most likely make a few enemies for life.

I watched about a quarter of the Hall of Fame game Sunday night and it got me a bit excited about football again. It is still baseball season but it has been a few seasons since any of us were still passionate about the Mariners in August. But the last few seasons of Seahawk football has been eventful and very exciting.

I know it won’t be easy this year. All you have to do is look at the schedule and realize just how many teams have gotten better.

I do think that the San Francisco 49ers will struggle this year. You can’t lose as much talent as they have and not have a rough season.

However, teams like the 49ers are dangerous because they can put it all together on any Sunday afternoon against an opponent that has an off day.

Teams like that can gather some momentum and earn a much-needed victory. But when the season is over there is a good chance the 49ers won’t make the playoffs. Okay, I’m hopeful that will happen.

Arizona and St. Louis will be tough and scary. The teams that play the most injury free should have the best chance of getting to the playoffs with a high seed. It will be tough but as a Seahawk fan we’ve been spoiled and frankly I like being spoiled.

So let’s strap it up and get after it. It’s time to beat the odds and get back to another Super Bowl and this time give the ball to Beast Mode and win it all.

Who’s with me?
